Tetsunori Tawaraya – Psychedelic Sci-Fi Comics
Tetsunori Tawaraya is a Japanese artist and musician whose work occupies the intersection of psychedelic illustration, biomechanical sci-fi, horror, and punk. His drawings are dense, obsessive, and formally consistent — a visual language developed across zines, artist books, and comics over more than a decade.
Tawaraya's publications span underground zine culture and established international art publishers. His books and comics have appeared through Hollow Press and Le Dernier Cri, two publishers with strong roots in transgressive and experimental print. The range of formats — from hand-distributed zines to hardcover artist books — reflects a practice that has never settled into a single distribution model.
Outside of drawing, Tawaraya is the frontman of 2up, a noise-rock band from Tokyo. The sonic and visual sides of his practice share an aesthetic logic: high density, physical intensity, and a disregard for genre boundaries.
