Animals, Plants & Other Lives

Books on animals, plants, fungi and environments in which nonhuman life becomes a central subject or active presence.

Life Beyond the Human Subject

This collection brings together photobooks, artist publications, and visual studies in which animals, plants, fungi, and ecological environments occupy the foreground — not as backdrop or symbol, but as subjects with their own presence and logic.

The works gathered here approach nonhuman life as something that actively shapes perception and conditions how we understand space, time, and relation. Whether through documentary attention, experimental image-making, or extended observation, each title treats the nonhuman world as a structuring force rather than a setting.

The selection spans a range of forms and registers, from precise field-based photography to more oblique or formally experimental approaches. What holds the collection together is a shared refusal to place the human figure at the centre — or to treat other forms of life as incidental to it.
