kiku label
kiku label is a Japanese publishing and creative label operated by discovery go inc. in Nagoya. It develops projects across books, photography, film and music, with the shared aim of preserving the ideas and working methods of the artists and makers it publishes.
The label's output spans several media rather than a single format, treating books, photographic works, film and sound as related ways of documenting a practice. This range gives its catalogue a documentary quality: each project functions as a record of how an artist or maker thinks and works, not only as a finished object.
Within Lokator100's selection, the kiku label titles sit close to our wider holdings in Japanese photobooks and the broader field of photography books and photobooks. Thematically, the catalogue returns to contemporary Japanese photography, traditional craftsmanship, cultural continuity, and the relationship between makers and the natural world — concerns that also surface in our collection of work by Masao Yamamoto.
As with the rest of our catalogue, kiku label titles are chosen individually for the shelf, based on the specific project and its relevance to the themes above, rather than as a blanket import of the label's full output.
