Where do the strange drawings collected in this equally strange book come from? Some claim they were created by a certain Prody Pierce, based on notebooks and sketches found in a mysterious trunk. Others suggest it's the result of a fantastical case of plagiarism between two rival artists. Yet another rumor insists these images were designed as interpretive tools for eccentric psychologists...

Much like a treasure unearthed from the ruins of a forgotten civilization, the illustrations in Les Assises de l’Imposture keep their secrets. The language has been lost, the faces are anonymous, and the scenes resist explanation. In a style that evokes Magritte, Topor, and Plympton, Rita Mercedes invites us into a foggy, liminal world where nothing is as it seems and logic dissolves into reverie.
