The Bizarre World of Fake Video Games is the first volume in the U.D.W.F.G. essays series (underdarkweirdfantasygrounds), written by Super Eyepatch Wolf and published by Hollow Press in November 2025. The book takes the form of an essay collection built around video games that do not exist — reviews, previews, and retrospectives of titles drawn from an imaginary timeline, using the phenomenon of fake games as a way of examining internet folklore, fandom behaviour, and dark weird fantasy.
The approach is investigative rather than satirical. Fictional titles such as Apple Quest, Bird World, Ghostbleed, Valle Verde, and Vermis are treated as objects of genuine critical attention, each accompanied by original artwork and its own internal lore. The result sits between essay collection and art book, closer in spirit to a critic's guide to a medium that never existed than to a straightforward parody. Twenty-one artists contributed original artwork across the volume's 176 full-colour pages, each responding to a specific fake game entry. The cover, by Plastiboo — also known for the Vermis series referenced within the book — is printed in UV full colour over holographic silver hot-foil on Onyx Pearl cover paper. The interior is printed on Magno Volume paper, and the binding includes a silver ribbon bookmark. At A4 format and roughly 1.1 kg, it is a substantial, tactile object consistent with Hollow Press's production standards.
Super Eyepatch Wolf, credited under his given name John Walsh, is an Irish video essayist and critic known for long-form work on anime, manga, and video game culture, as well as internet phenomena more broadly. The Bizarre World of Fake Video Games is his first book-length project, extending the critical interests of his video work into print and establishing the editorial framework for the U.D.W.F.G. essays series.
