About the Book
Created during several visits to Dennis Severs’ House (18 Folgate Street, London) in 2017–2018, The Essential Solitude assembles staged black-and-white photographs that treat the historic interior as a place of retreat. A single androgynous figure moves through dusted rooms, dulled mirrors, and heavy fabrics, articulating Zelenkova’s meditation on Maurice Blanchot’s idea of “essential solitude”—a work existing outside ordinary time. The sequence merges mysticism and observation, image and text, and pays homage to the solitude of the absorbed reader.
