About the Book
Mai Nakama’s “Wandering Dog” (Graf Publishers, 2024) is a limited edition photobook of 300 copies that weaves together themes of life and death through striking black-and-white photography. Beginning with the story of a cow’s passing, the book unfolds into a visual meditation on nature, animals, and everyday life in a rural Japanese town. Nakama alternates between intimate close-ups and stark compositions, allowing light to emerge from darkness, while evoking a sense of transience and quiet observation. Hardcover, 56 pages with 43 photographs, this edition presents a powerful balance of personal narrative and timeless imagery.
