About the Artist
Mat Brinkman is an underground artist and musician based in the United States, working primarily in dense, hand-drawn illustration. His imagery draws on grotesque figuration, monster iconography, and a visual language developed through years of work in independent and experimental comics. The aesthetic is deliberate and consistent: dark, intricate, and resistant to mainstream genre conventions.
Brinkman's most widely recognised contributions outside of comics are his illustrations for Cave Evil and Warcults, two board games whose artwork he defined. Both games carry his characteristic monster illustrations — heavily detailed, unsettling, and rooted in an underground sensibility that predates and operates apart from commercial fantasy art. His comics work, produced over many years in small-press and self-published formats, occupies a similar space within Experimental Comics — formally restless, visually dense, and indifferent to legibility as a commercial virtue.
Lokator100 stocks his publications alongside related Artbooks and titles from Hollow Press, a publisher whose output shares the underground and dark-art orientation that runs through Brinkman's practice.
