Age of Rot Lore Game Book — Dark Fantasy Worldbuilding by Strange House
Age of Rot is a lore game book by Strange House, published by Hollow Press in 2025 as a softcover reprint limited to 3000 copies. Across 80 full-color pages, it constructs a dark fantasy setting through prose fragments, worldbuilding prompts, and stand-alone illustrations — without prescribing a rule system.
About the Book
The book is organised around tone rather than plot. Short scenes, broken legends, and cryptic dialogues sketch a land governed by decay: doomed kingdoms, forgotten cults, travellers caught between survival and collapse. There is no fixed narrative arc — the material functions as a dark fantasy worldbuilding book, offering fragments that can be assembled or left deliberately incomplete.
The visual grammar is consistent throughout: ruined fortresses, fungal thrones, pale saints, relics consumed by time. This imagery does not merely illustrate the text — it carries its own informational weight, functioning as encounter seeds, artefact descriptions, or setting details. As a system-agnostic RPG supplement, the book is equally usable at a game table or read independently as an Artbooks publication in the dark fantasy tradition.
The result sits at the intersection of art book, zine, and tabletop toolkit — precise in its visual vocabulary, deliberately sparse in its narrative resolution. The companion volume Cursed Swords - The Art of Strange House is also available at Lokator100.
