Scions of Voodoo – John Blanche's Voodoo Forest in Print
Scions of Voodoo collects the complete full-color illustration output of John Blanche's Voodoo Forest series in a single Hollow Press hardcover edition. Where the preceding Voodoo Forest - John Blanche series established the visual territory, this volume gathers it as a coherent archive — figures, symbols, and surface textures assembled without linear narrative logic.
Blanche's gothic-punk fantasy language operates through accumulation rather than sequence. Robed figures, skeletal ornament, and layered pigment recur across the plates, building a visual vocabulary that resists easy categorization. The work sits between surreal fantasy illustration and dark folklore imagery, drawing on personal mythology as much as any established genre. Reproduced on Fedrigoni Ivory Smooth 160g stock, the color density and fine linework translate with fidelity to the physical page.
The edition was produced with the physical object in mind. The canvas-bound hardcover with black hot-foil blocking and stitched binding makes for a durable, handled book — one suited to sustained use as much as to shelf storage. Published in November 2023 in a print run of 2000 copies, it represents a defined production rather than an open edition.

About John Blanche
John Blanche is a British illustrator and art director whose work has been closely associated with Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 over several decades. His imagery combines gothic ornament, punk abrasion, and surreal fantasy into a densely layered visual language that has shaped how dark fantasy illustration is understood in print.
In the Voodoo Forest body of work, Blanche moves toward a more personal visual mythology — one less tied to licensed world-building and more concerned with autonomous symbolic imagery. Scions of Voodoo gathers this material as a Hollow Press hardcover edition, presenting it as a sustained archive rather than a series of individual images.
