The volume surveys Sorayama's practice across five decades, with primary emphasis on his Sexy Robot imagery — the erotic gynoid paintings that established his international reputation from 1983 onward. Additional subjects include pin-ups, nose art, domina and BDSM drawings, ROBO Marilyn, Bettie Page, AIBO, and FUTURE MICKEY. The book also documents Sorayama's sculptural collaborations with Dior, The Weeknd, and Ghost in the Shell (original work by Masamune Shirow). The visual material is reproduced through high-definition printing, foregrounding Sorayama's signature treatment of light, reflection, and transparency rendered through superrealist technique.

A separate Japanese-language booklet accompanies the book, containing selected writings by Hajime Sorayama, the essay Hajime Sorayama or Gynoid Erotics by Takayuki Tatsumi, and an additional text titled SORAYAMA WORLD: Cross-Disciplinary Collaborations & Commercial Impact.

About the Artist
Hajime Sorayama (born 22 February 1947) is a Japanese illustrator and industrial designer. He coined the term superrealism to describe his method of rendering surfaces — particularly metallic, chrome, and skin — with extreme optical precision. He began producing erotic gynoid imagery in 1983, and his pin-up work appeared regularly in Penthouse. Sorayama designed the original Sony AIBO robot dog, which entered the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Smithsonian Institution. His style has been cited as an influence on the 2015 film Ex Machina. He has collaborated with Dior (Pre-Fall 2019 menswear), The Weeknd, Marc Ecko, and contributed to Star Wars Art Concept (2013). In 2025, AIBO was featured in MoMA's Pirouette: Turning Points in Design.
