About Frans de Waard
Frans de Waard, born in 1965, has worked across experimental music, publishing, reviewing, performance, and archival documentation. He began making music in 1984 and built a long network of projects including Kapotte Muziek, Beequeen, Goem, Zebra, Freiband, Shifts, and later Modelbau. Alongside music, he developed a parallel role as editor, writer, and chronicler of underground sound culture.
That parallel role is essential. He worked for Staalplaat between 1992 and 2003, ran Vital from the 1980s onward, and turned it into Vital Weekly in the online era. In 2019 he relaunched Korm Plastics as a publisher of books, extending the same archival and scene-based interests into print. By 2025 he had ended Vital Weekly in order to focus fully on books and music.
