Ronin de Goede – Dutch Black-and-White Photographer
Ronin de Goede (born 1978, Netherlands) works exclusively in black-and-white analogue photography. He shoots on a Leica MP loaded with Kodak Tri-X film, and prints every image himself in his own darkroom in the woods near The Hague. The resulting work is unmediated by digital process at any stage — grain, contrast, and tonal range are determined entirely in the darkroom.
His visual language draws on the legacy of Japanese Provoke-era photography: the abrasive grain, the tilted horizon, the deliberate refusal of pictorial comfort. Collectors drawn to the publications of Zen Foto Gallery will recognise the lineage. De Goede applies that aesthetic to Dutch subjects — street scenes, portraits, and fragments of the everyday that hold something slightly off-register beneath the surface.
