About the Book
High Fashion by Pawel Jaszczuk is a striking photobook capturing Tokyo salarymen asleep on the streets between 2008 and 2010. Riding his bicycle through the city during the early hours, Jaszczuk photographed exhausted businessmen in their suits collapsed on sidewalks, stairs, or benches — many of them unintentionally striking poses reminiscent of fashion models.
Originally self-published as the zine Salaryman in 2009 (sold out quickly in an edition of 150), the series has evolved. This third edition, presented in a magazine-style photobook by Zen Foto Gallery, blends humor with social commentary. What began as a contrast between clean-cut suits and grimy pavements has become a surreal, almost apocalyptic portrait of overwork and human vulnerability in urban Japan.
