About this edition
The original Necrophantasmagoria appeared in 2012 as a 96-page volume. The 2015 expanded edition increased the page count to 104 and added material that had not appeared in the standard trade release: the rediscovered underdrawing for "The Magician," previously thought lost; the newly completed painting "DEATH II" and its underdrawing; and thirty "Vanitas" works originally created for the special limited edition. The book was also given a new dust jacket, a sleek black satin hardcover with silver foil-printed endpapers, and new high-definition printing throughout.
The full contents comprise 17 underdrawings of new paintings, 22 full-colour new paintings, 6 underdrawings of earlier paintings, 6 full-colour earlier paintings, and 32 monochrome new drawings.
About Takato Yamamoto
Born in 1960, Takato Yamamoto developed the "Ukiyo-e Pop" style into what he later termed "Heisei Decadence" — a mode of illustration drawing on Edo-period woodblock aesthetics and recasting them through a sensibility attuned to decay, eroticism, and ornamental violence. He has produced illustrations for aesthetic, fantasy, erotic, and historical novels, as well as book cover art and commercial commissions. He is a member of the International Ukiyo-e Society.
